A lot of companies fail to realise or underestimate the total cost of payroll, above and beyond the actual cost of paying employees and payroll teams. Only when the total cost is understood can the benefits of outsourcing be analysed fairly.

 

The first hidden cost is IT. Keeping payroll in-house often means buying, running and upgrading payroll software, which in turn needs licenses and servicing by an in-house IT team. If and when this software, or the servers which host it go wrong, there are unpredictable costs and a lot of time involved in putting it right again.
